Establishing a Fund

Donors can create an individual or family legacy by establishing a named fund at the El Paso Community Foundation. You can create your fund now, establish it in your will, or create it through a trust arrangement. Contributions can be made in honor of a loved one, an anniversary, special event or to support a cause.

When establishing an endowment fund, please consider:

  1. The type of fund
Your interests may be in the arts, education, or programs for children.
  2. A name for your fund
Person(s) establishing fund – (the John and Jane Doe Fund for Charitable Purposes)
Family name - (the Velasquez Family Fund)
Favorite cause – (Morford Fund for St. Episcopal School)
Memorial – (Martin Luther King Memorial Scholarship Fund)
Anonymous fund – (the We Care fund)
  3. The amount of your first contribution

Contact Janice Windle at 915-533-4020 for more information on establishing your fund.

Types of Endowment Funds

Since donors have many reasons and interests for investing in a community foundation, we offer a variety of funds to help you focus on the impact you want to make. Donors may designate their funds in one or more of the following ways.

General Charitable Purpose – the most flexible type of fund. Grants are made at the discretion of the Board of Directors addressing the community’s highest priorities.

Field of Interest – benefits your general interests – such as the arts, children’s issues, programs for the elderly.

Designated – benefit specific charitable organizations.

Scholarship – donors may identify area of study, institution, and/or establish the criteria.

Memorial – honors a deceased family member or friend.

Affiliated Foundation – also known as a “supporting organization,” it maintains its own identity while enjoying significant tax advantages through its relationship with the Community Foundation.
