Grant Guidelines

El Paso Community Foundation seeks to create a grant making process that is both flexible and user friendly. Please take time to read the guidelines in its entirety as well as the Grant FAQs. They provide helpful information that will make the process easier.

Granting priorities (areas of interest):

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Education
  • Environment/Animals
  • Health and Disabilities
  • Human Services (basic human needs)
  • Public Benefit

We generally do not make grants to:

  • Individuals
  • Capital campaigns
  • Fundraising events or projects
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes
  • Annual appeals and membership contributions
  • Organizations that are political or partisan in purpose
  • Travel for individuals or groups
  • Organizations outside the El Paso geographic area
  • Endowment Funds
  • Past operating deficits

Guidelines for grant programs associated with El Paso Community Foundation

The El Paso Community Foundation and its supporting organizations respond to the needs of nonprofit organizations by providing grants in the greater El Paso region.

  • El Paso Community Foundation - Provides funding for a variety of charitable interests primarily in the greater El Paso region, far west Texas, southern New Mexico, and northern Chihuahua, Mexico
  • Burkitt Foundation Perpetual Fund - Provides funding for Catholic educational institutions and other Catholic activities; as well as human services and the arts.
  • The Cardwell Foundation – Provides funding for a variety of charitable interests primarily in the greater El Paso region, far west Texas, southern New Mexico, and northern Chihuahua, Mexico
  • Walter H. Hightower Foundation – Provides funding for medical care and treatment of children with disabilities in the west Texas and southern New Mexico area.
  • Stern Foundation Perpetual Charitable Fund – Provides funding for a variety of charitable interests primarily in the greater El Paso region, far west Texas, southern New Mexico, and northern Chihuahua, Mexico
  • Stern Foundation Perpetual Medical and Scientific Research Fund - Provides funding for medical programs, research, professorships and projects in the El Paso region including Juarez, Mexico

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Application deadlines are February 1 and August 1 (5 p.m. Mountain Time).

  • Applications cannot be submitted more than 60 days prior to deadline.
  • Nonprofit organizations can submit only one request for consideration per funding source in any 12 month period.
  • Please do not submit application using all upper-case lettering.

The El Paso Community Foundation has upgraded to a web-based grant making program. When you click on the link below, you will be taken to a screen where you will be asked to sign in and select your password.

Caution: Your email address will be your user ID. It should be an email address that anyone accessing the grantmaking program can remember. Keep in mind your email ID is specific to your organization. Use another email ID if you are submitting an application for another organization. Give the same thought to the password you select.

As you begin the application process, you will input information about your organization. Using your user ID and password, you will always have access to your information and you will be able to update it at your convenience. You will not have to re-enter for each request.
