“God, let her tears become my own.” That was the prayer that Maria said for the young girl she met while on a mission in El Salvador that would change her life forever. Maria has seen the way Kenya Marisol lives, a young girl filled with excitement and wonder in her eyes. Kenya Marisol was twelve, but because of malnourishment, looked more like she was only seven. After witnessing the hardship that Kenya and hundreds of thousands of children like her face everyday, Maria finally grasped what her parents and teachers had been trying to teach her the whole time. Maria is an exceptional student with an outstanding work ethic; her accomplishments in school will certainly be a reflection of what she will bring to our society in the future and hopefully allow her to help people like Kenya Marisol live a better life.
